Mary Sumner Day 2019
In 1876 Mary Sumner, a clergyman’s wife living in Old Alresford, became concerned about how local mothers related their Christian faith to family life. Wanting to encourage them she founded a small group called the Mothers’ Union. She lived to see it become a worldwide organisation, now with millions of members.
Each year, Mary Sumner is remembered on 9th August by MU members throughout the world. Here in Bromsgrove, a few of our MU members got together for a strawberry tea at the home of one of our group. As well as enjoying a wonderful tea of strawberries, scones and cream, £158.75 was raised for charity. A wonderful result from a small group of committed ladies.
